Introducing Tasmanian Blackwood: A Rich New Chapter for The Harrie Collection

At The Purc Shop, our commitment to crafting beds that are not only beautiful but also sustainably and locally made is unwavering. We're excited to introduce a new timber option that embodies these values: Tasmanian Blackwood.

A Conversation That Sparked Inspiration

Our journey with Tasmanian Blackwood began with a conversation with our trusted timber supplier, Britton Timbers. With over 110 years of experience, Britton Timbers is renowned for sourcing premium Tasmanian timbers from sustainably managed forests in the state's north-west region.

They introduced us to Tasmanian Blackwood, highlighting its rich tones, distinctive grain, and sustainable credentials. Intrigued, we explored this timber further and were captivated by its character and story.

The Allure of Tasmanian Blackwood

Tasmanian Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon) is celebrated for its warm hues ranging from golden brown to deep chocolate, often featuring reddish streaks and a wavy grain that adds visual interest. Its natural luster and stability make it a preferred choice for fine furniture and joinery.

When incorporated into our Harrie beds, Tasmanian Blackwood brings a sense of depth and sophistication, offering a striking alternative to our existing Tasmanian Oak options.

Sustainability at Its Core

Sourced from PEFC-certified forests, Tasmanian Blackwood reflects our dedication to environmental responsibility. Britton Timbers ensures that their harvesting practices comply with the Forest Practices Code and the Tasmanian Forests Agreement, guaranteeing that the timber is produced sustainably and ethically.

By choosing Tasmanian Blackwood, you're not only investing in a beautiful piece of furniture but also supporting sustainable forestry and local craftsmanship.

Expanding Your Choices

With the addition of Tasmanian Blackwood, The Harrie and The Harrie’s Arc beds are now available in three distinct timber options:

  • Tasmanian Oak – Light Wash: A soft, minimal finish that brings an airy feel to any space.

  • Tasmanian Oak – Dark Wash: A warm, grounded tone that adds classic charm.

  • Tasmanian Blackwood: Our newest and darkest option, offering rich tones and a unique grain pattern.

Each bed is handcrafted to order in our Northern Rivers workshop, ensuring quality and attention to detail in every piece.
